hospital room swing bed chairs windowThe Swing Bed Program at Schleicher County Medical Center is for Medicare patients discharged from Schleicher or any other hospital following an acute illness, injury or surgery, and who still need additional time and physical therapy to heal and strengthen before going home.

The program eases the transition from acute care to home by providing patients with access to highly trained and caring medical professionals right here in Eldorado!  Medicare patients eligible for swing bed care typically require one or more of the following:

  • Teaching and training to care for a new health problem or condition
  • IV Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Palliative Care (hospice alternative)

To qualify for the Swing Bed Program, patients must meet the following guidelines:

  • Stayed in an acute care hospital for a minimum of three consecutive nights (one or more of those nights may be spent in Schleicher County Medical Center)
  • Be accepted into the program by one of the hospital's physicians
  • Acceptance into the program can be made anytime within 30 days of the qualifying stay.
  • To learn if you or your loved one qualifies for swing bed services, please call Megan Fay, RN, at 325/853-2507.
